What Does A Female Model Do? - Model Factory

What Does A Model Do?

A model works with consumer brands, fashion designers, photographers and artists to advertise a wide range of products. Consumer brands hire models to wear fashionable clothes in magazines, on runways or to model cosmetic products. Models usually have stylists and makeup artists crafting their clothing, hairstyles and appearance, but they are ultimately responsible for how they portray their looks in front of the camera

10 Types of Fashion Models

There are nine basic types of models in the fashion world. Each type of modeling has its own set of requirements:

Editorial Model.

These models often appear in fashion magazines, such as Vogue or Harper's Bazaar, wearing the latest designs from a particular fashion designer or clothing brand. Editorial models pose for fashion photographers during photoshoots, take direction, and help capture the perfect image while following their artistic instincts. Female models are classified based on their height and measurements, and are usually five feet, nine inches, or taller and thinner. Male models are classified based on their height and measurements, and are usually about six feet tall and slim.

Runway Model.

These models walk the catwalks during fashion shows, displaying carefully curated ensembles to audiences that set the current tone or upcoming trends for the fashion world. All runway models are classified based on their height and measurements, and are typically five feet, nine inches and thinner.

Plus-Size Model.

In the fashion modeling industry, models who are taller than the editorial standard are considered full-figured or curvy. They primarily model plus-size clothing designs.
Parts models. Parts models in product photography only model a specific body part. For example, they may use their hands to create a new nail polish, or use their feet to advertise a new sandal. Parts model must take special care of its iconic feature to ensure that it remains in optimum condition.

Fitness Model.

Maintaining peak physical fitness is a major requirement for fitness models. These models exercise regularly, which leads to a toned and muscular physique. Fitness models commonly appear in magazines, advertising supplements, workout attire or gym facilities.

Glamor Model.

Glamor models are usually hired on the basis of their appearance and sex appeal. Brands and photographers hire glamor models to appear in some magazines, calendars and music videos.

Lingerie Model.

Lingerie models pose in bodices and underwear for photoshoots, catalogs, and magazines. These models also serve as runways for lingerie brands and designers to showcase the latest undergarment fashions.

Bikini Model.

Swimsuit models pose in bathing suits, showing off the latest in summer swimwear. Sports Illustrated magazine is best known for its athletic swimsuit model features.

Promotional Model.

Brands hire this type of model to market their products and services. Brands hire promotional models to promote their products and services to their target audience, commonly known as influencers.

Catalog Model.

Companies hire these business models for their respective image. This type of modeling has more flexibility in terms of appearance. Catalogs usually feature models who look like ordinary people rather than runway-ready supermodels. This type of commercial modeling includes mainstream retail clothing and products that are more accessible to general consumers.
